    • Other places you can use these skills

This class has focused on government committees but these same skills and strategies apply in other committees.

      Arena 1
      Government Committees
These are official meetings created by a government like a city council subcommittee or your governor’s office. They have formal rules, public meeting requirements, and their actions can lead to laws, regulations, or funding decisions.
      Arena 2
      Nonprofit Committees
These are internal committees within a nonprofit organization. They might focus on programs, fundraising, or policies. They may be mandated by a grant or they  entirely voluntary as part of the cultural values of the group.
      Arena 3
      Coalitions
These are alliances of different groups (government departments, nonprofits, businesses, individuals) who come together around a common issue. They aim to have power in numbers. Engaging here is about building consensus and developing a unified voice. They can also serve to get the message out when a program is doing well and should be an example to others or struggling and needs support.
      Arena 4
      For-Profit Committees
These are within a business, like a corporate social responsibility committee. Your engagement might be about encouraging the business to take a public stance on an issue or to change a practice. Their primary driver is often a combination of public relations, risk management, and social impact.
